COMPOSER FOR FILM, TELEVISION AND GAMES

Award-winning composer Mike Tilbrook has built an exceptional career spanning film, television, games, and live performance. Renowned for his versatility and creative depth, he brings a distinctive voice to every project — from cinematic scores to cross-cultural collaborations and jazz performance.

As a film composer, Mike has written original scores for dozens of productions. His work on Fwends, directed by Sophie Somerville, contributed to the film’s success at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it received the Caligari Film Prize. He also composed the music for the feature documentary Dancing with the Devil, directed by Bill Code and released by Wedgetail Pictures, and for The Funeral Planner with director Jessica Trinity Fisher, which earned the Best Queensland Short Film award at the Brisbane International Film Festival.

Mike’s work extends beyond film into television and games, including the Charlie Faulks comedy series Bloke of the Apocalypse and the video games Borous and the Barbary Star and Cyber Strike. His adaptability across genres underscores his reputation as a dynamic and sought-after composer.

A passionate performer and collaborator, Mike has been a long-standing figure in Melbourne’s West African music scene, particularly in Ghanaian traditions, and has also worked closely with artists from the Middle East and North Africa. He has produced and arranged albums for Bortier Okoe, Asanti Beats and Palestinian activist and vocalist Aseel Tayah.

Mike has performed Thousands of times across Australia with a diverse array of ensembles and styles — including a memorable performance at WOMADelaide alongside Bortier Okoe.

Having studied at Adelaide’s prestigious Elder Conservatorium of Music, Mike continues to expand his artistic reach. His upcoming projects include live performances at Strawberry Fields Festival with Asanti Beats, as he continues to explore new intersections of sound, culture, and storytelling.
